A New Era for Behind the Brand JA: Culture, Community & Conversation

Since February, Behind the Brand JA has continued to make its mark within Jamaica’s digital media and entrepreneurial landscape through authentic storytelling, creative content, and community-driven experiences. Founded and hosted by Safiya Bird-Mears, the platform remains dedicated to celebrating Jamaican businesses, creatives, and cultural icons while creating meaningful conversations around growth, branding, and entrepreneurship.

In March, the platform expanded into lifestyle and food content with its very first food review feature at Sky Phoenix Sushi Restaurant, a Jamaican-Japanese sushi restaurant known for its creative approach to cooked sushi and fusion flavours. The review showcased the restaurant’s unique menu and atmosphere while highlighting another innovative Jamaican business making its mark locally. The feature represented an exciting step forward for Behind the Brand JA as it continued broadening the types of stories and experiences shared with its audience.

Milestone Moment: T.O.K. Interview

Later in March, Behind the Brand JA achieved one of its biggest milestones to date with an exclusive interview featuring legendary Jamaican group T.O.K.. Known internationally for helping shape dancehall music on the global stage, the interview reflected the platform’s continued growth and credibility within Jamaica’s entertainment and media industry. It was also a full-circle moment for Founder, Bird-Mears. who also created meme platfrom, Likkle Curry Gravy. One of the platform’s most viral memes featured the legendary hit, ‘Footprints.’ (1.9 million views to date.) The conversation gave viewers insight into the group’s journey, legacy, and experiences within the music business while reinforcing the platform’s mission of highlighting impactful Jamaican stories.

BTBJA: Safiya's Birthday Brand Mingle

In April, Behind the Brand JA successfully hosted its inaugural Birthday Brand Mingle: a networking and community-building event designed to bring entrepreneurs, creatives, and business owners together in one space. The event encouraged collaboration, open discussions about entrepreneurship, and conversations surrounding resilience, patience, discipline, and personal growth. Guests participated in interactive moments centred around supporting and uplifting one another while building valuable connections.

The Birthday Brand Mingle represented more than just a celebration; it reflected the heart of Behind the Brand JA and its commitment to creating spaces where Jamaican brands feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow.
